Grief Counseling in Baltimore, MD

Grief doesn't follow a timeline. It doesn't move in a straight line, and it doesn't always look the way people expect it to. You may be grieving a person, a relationship, a version of your life, or something that never had the chance to become what you hoped it would be. Sometimes it's obvious. Other times it shows up quietly, in waves, in moments you didn't expect, or in a lingering heaviness that's hard to explain.

At Joining with Empathy, we offer grief counseling for teens and adults in person in Baltimore and online across Maryland. There can be pressure, internal and external, to move on or feel better on a certain schedule. Grief doesn't need to be rushed or fixed. This work is about creating space for your experience as it is, so it can be understood and carried in a way that feels more supported.

What Grief Can Look Like

Grief can arrive as sadness, numbness, anger, or confusion, often in waves and often when you least expect it.

This work is for people who:

  • Are grieving the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or a meaningful part of their life
  • Feel overwhelmed by waves of sadness, numbness, anger, or confusion
  • Notice grief showing up in unexpected or lingering ways
  • Feel pressure to move on but don't feel ready or able to
  • Are navigating anticipatory grief or a complicated loss
  • Want a space where their experience isn't minimized or explained away

How We Approach

Grief Counseling

We create a steady, supportive space to process grief at your pace. Together we explore the emotional and relational impact of loss and make room for meaning without forcing resolution, supporting your nervous system through the waves as they come. Gentle reflection and conversation build understanding over time, honoring both the pain of the loss and the parts of you that are still here. The work draws on CBT, narrative approaches, and client-centered care. There is no one way grief should look, and we meet you where you are, without expectation or timeline.

What Can Shift Over Time

Clients often feel less alone in their grief, and begin to make space for the full range of what they're feeling. The pressure to grieve a certain way or by a certain time eases, and you find ways to stay connected to what was lost while continuing forward. Moments of steadiness start to sit alongside the grief, and daily life feels more supported. This work is not about getting over it. It's about learning to hold it in a way that feels more manageable.
